Tim Ellis Realtors and Auctioneers has been engaged in the real estate business in Bloomington and Monroe County since 1964. In that year, Tim joined Top Homes as a salesman and began selling single family homes in Highland Village.
In 1967 he founded Properties Unlimited Realtors, a full-service real estate brokerage. The company grew to four offices with forty associates. Tim sold the company in 1979 to focus primarily on commercial sales.
Tim became a licensed auctioneer in 1996 and started conducting real estate auctions. In 2001, Beth joined her father and she specializes in residential sales while Tim continues with commercial brokerage and property auctions.
Tim’s parents moved to Monroe County after WWII. Tim graduated from Bloomington High School in 1955 and earned a B.S. degree in Marketing from the Indiana University School of Business in 1962. Following a brief tenure in public service as City of Bloomington Clerk Treasurer and a very short-lived wholesale auto auction venture, he was hired in 1964 as a home salesman with Top Homes Corporation in the new Highland Village subdivision. In 1966 he obtained his Indiana Real Estate Broker’s license. The following year he opened Properties Unlimited, a full-service real estate agency. By 1979, Properties Unlimited had grown to four offices with forty sales associates. Tim decided to sell the company in order to concentrate on commercial real estate sales. In 1996, he obtained his Indiana Auctioneer’s License and held his first real estate auction. Today, Tim works in the commercial property area and conducts real estate auctions.
Community activities include Bloomington North Rotary where he is a two time Paul Harris Fellow and past club president, current Board membership in the Bloomington Economic Development Corporation, current member and past Board member of the Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, past Board member and two year president of the Bloomington Community Foundation, past Board member of the Bloomington United Way and co-founder of the Vanguard Group with that organization, Big Brother, and 1987 Republican candidate for the office of Mayor of Bloomington. He lost that election by a mere 261 votes.
Tim is married to Dorothy who is also a licensed Indiana Real Estate Broker. Their three children are Beth who works in the company, Joan who is a property manager and massage therapist, and Tim W who lives in Anderson, IN, and works for ABC Funds. All three are Indiana University graduates. Tim’s hobbies include traveling, bicycle riding, golf, card playing, reading, polishing his Español, and spending some of the wintertime in Mexico.
I graduated from Bloomington High School South in 1984 and then lived in Mexico City for a year on a cultural exchange. Upon returning to Bloomington, I enrolled in Indiana University and graduated in 1988 with a BA in Sociology and minors in Spanish and Psychology. After IU, I lived in Tucson, AZ for a year and then moved back to Bloomington where I worked at the IU Office of Admissions from 1990-2001.
In 2001, I joined my dad, Tim Ellis, as a residential sales agent. Since then, I have earned my Broker’s license, my Council of Residential Specialists (CRS) designation, and my Graduate, REALTOR Institute (GRI) designation. I am a member of the National Association of REALTORS (NAR), the Indiana Association of REALTORS (IAR), and the Bloomington Board of REALTORS (BBOR).
As a REALTOR, I have been very involved in our local board. I have served as the President of the Bloomington Multiple Listing Service (MLS), as a board member for the Bloomington Board of REALTORS, and as a member of the grievance committee. Currently I am a member of the Network of Independent Brokers and I meet weekly with this group to discuss client needs and to tour new listings. My dad and I were named the 2016 REALTORS of the year by the Bloomington Board of REALTORS for our work both in our profession and with philanthropic organizations.
The Bloomington community is very important to me as well. I have served as the President of the Board for Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County and I have sponsored a Habitat Women Build day for 10 years. I was given the 2015 Humanitarian Award from our Board of REALTORS as recognition for the work I do with Habitat. I also serve as a volunteer with the Monroe County Humane Association where I distribute posters of adoptable animals in the Bloomington community. Bloomington is very fortunate to have The Lotus Festival each fall and I am proud to be a sponsor of this awesome event.
I’m married to Tamera Theodore and we live in Bloomington with our dog Peanut. We enjoy cooking adventures, fine wines and craft beers, relaxing with family and friends, Chicago BEARS football, camping, and traveling just about anywhere!
